I had worked on my writing project for hours. I typed a while, read what I had written. I deleted, rearranged the words and started over. \u00a0Still nothing worked. I had developed a serious case of writer\u2019s block. \u00a0Professional writers tell us amateurs that the remedy for this is to just keep writing whatever comes into your head. The medicine didn\u2019t work. Exasperated, I gave up\u2014at least for the day.<\/p>\n<p>I began writing and the flow of words seemed to spring from a fountain and arrange themselves on the page.\u00a0 My goal is usually to write two thousand words a day. \u00a0When I finally hit \u201cSave,\u201d the word count was over three thousand.\u00a0 Ecstatic does not do justice the way I felt\u2014I was absolutely giddy. \u00a0I went back to the computer and wrote my frivolous reaction to my accomplishment.<\/p>\n<p>On a whim, and at the urging of the Clarkesville Writing Society, I submitted it to <em>Writers\u2019 Journal <\/em>as filler.\u00a0 To my surprise and delight, it was accepted and published in the March\/April 2010 issue. Here is my only attempt at poetry\u2014and I use the word \u201cpoetry\u201d lightly.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">BREAKTHROUGH<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 I wrote three thousand words today; the writing was not fun.<\/p>\n<p>My computer called me to itself and held me lest I run.<\/p>\n<p>Characters marched through my head, their deeds in sharp detail.<\/p>\n<p>I saw them cover page by page and felt my fingers sail<\/p>\n<p>Across the keyboard at a pace they never sailed before.<\/p>\n<p>Hardly could they win the race as words came from my store.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote three thousand words today. I\u2019m bragging, yes, I am.<\/p>\n<p>I busted through a writer\u2019s block as thick as Hoover\u2019s Dam.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nothing seemed to sound right.
